Is abnormal bro, highly suspect gills flukes.
Fish is in sign of respiratory problem- breathing hard and fast.
Symptoms of Bacterial Gill Disease
Rapid gill movement
Lethargy
Loss of appetite
Clamped fins
Decomposing gill arches
White streaks of gills
Gills look like “hamburger meat”
White gill edges (pH)
Hanging out at surface (Low oxygen)
Gills swollen open (flukes parasite)
Mucus Hanging off Gills (flukes or pH)
Holes in Gill Covers (fish tb or flukes)
Pale Gill Covers (flukes or IHN virus)
Causes of Gill Disease
1. A sudden change of water temperature (allowable temperature difference is +-2 degrees celcius)
2. Giving too much feedings which degrades the water quality.
3. Stress from long journey.
4. Is either you didnt quarantine thoroughly or the water condition is not in the ideal stage.
Salt is a useful treament against pathogen diseases like gill and body flukes. It is also commonly used for quarantine (QT) of new fishes.
There is always a certain risk, do it at your comfort level.
Segregate the affected GF to quarantine tank and cure with salt dip treatment until the ranchu does not move or tilts its body to one side, or lasting
120 seconds.
Depending on the size of the ranchu, amount of salt is used accordingly from 0.3% - 0.9% salinity.
Juvenile fish : 0.3-0.4%
Larger juvenile fish : 0.4-0.6%
Adult fish : 0.6-0.9%
As a general rule, 0.5% salinity can be used.
Rise temperature above 28 degrees celsius and provide aeration. Preferbly to 30 degrees celsius.
The gills will heal in 3 days time if treatment is given during early stage.
7 days for mid stage.
Severe stage will be difficult to cure
To avoid getting Flukes, you need to quarantine any new fish or plants. Quarantine period should be at least 4 weeks. Best not to add any new goldfish once you have a well established and healthy community.
